A Wonderful Upgrade To Our Porch

At first I tried the Heath Zenith WC-6053-WH Motion Light Set with DualBrite, White in order to use my existing porch light and easily upgrade my porch light to LED down the road when they are cheaper. That unit was nice because it had 5 levels of dualbrite lighting, but it was not reliable and sometimes wouldn't come on and sometimes wouldn't turn off.After that frustrating experience I tried this unit and the first one I was sent was defective. It worked great but sometimes would still be on in the morning although I had it set to turn off at 6 hours. I almost gave up on Heath Zenith but replaced with another one of these and now it works great.I am fine with the 100W max power, we have streetlights nearby and I like to not flood out the stars, and I just want an accent light on most of the night at 50W which turns to 100W when I walk up. If you need brighter you need security flood lights which is another application altogether. As others have stated having to use incandescent bulbs is a bummer in this day of lower energy bulbs. I actually tried 12W (40W equivalent) CFLs and they worked fine, but the cover won't go on over them. If you can find small form factor CFLs or LEDs with a candelabra base, they just may work with some trial and error. The other bummer is the sensor isn't that consistent further out from the light. This isn't a problem for me because I don't need this for security lighting but rather I just want it to turn on as I approach. If that doesn't happen until I'm 5 feet away I am OK with that. I found if I adjusted the sensitivity high it would sometimes pickup false positives and I'd rather it be correct all of the time with the tradeoff is it doesn't turn on until I'm closer.If you have an existing light then installation is easy, the hardest part is sliding it on over the two studs. I actually just drilled holes through the base and screwed it from the bottom to avoid using the studs (once I knew the unit worked, hopefully that does not void my warranty). The cover then goes on with two thumbscrews so you don't see the screws.This is a great light and I highly recommend. It would be 5 stars if you could use LEDs or CFLs, and if you could choose a few more dualbrite positions like the WC-6053-WH.

It solved two problems!

We use the light outside under an overhang that is atop a stairs leading down eight steps to ground level from our kitchen. The light enables us to safely navigate stairs and see the dead bolt lock when we go out and return. Also, we wanted a light that would only be on briefly so that bugs would not be attracted to the doorway. We have it set for a one-minute on time as sensed by motion at night and otherwise off during the day. When we leave at night to go for a walk, the light comes on as we go outside and goes off shortly thereafter when the light is not needed. Later, when we get home, it comes on as we approach the stairs, and there are no bugs waiting for us to get inside as we open the door. There is sufficient light to easily navigate the stairs and get the key in the door. Although the product uses incandescent bulbs, we have it on so little that it doesn't matter as far as energy use goes. We are very pleased as it functions exactly as advertised and has solved our problems. The little things in life can be very helpful and are much appreciated! The light is not deep and enables the screen door to swing under it without a collision. However, it is important to check the clearance when the arc of the door passes under the light.

I needed a motion detector light that was ceiling mount. I really liked this light after seeing it at a local store. However, I could not find it in black, so I was very happy when I found this at Amazon. The light is well made and easy to install. It was easy to program and works as advertised. I love the dual brite feature. It stays on at half power when set on dusk to dawn, and only brightens when motion is detected. I'm really happy with it!
