Adventures in home repair

We were looking to replace a pink hanging light in our dining room which I hated for two reasons. 1. It was pink. 2. I constantly hit my head on it. We went to one of those giant home stores and stared up at their display walking back and forth and not liking anything. We didn't want anything that hanged anymore... and the semiflush fixtures just didn't seem very nice. We found this fixture on the shelf, but they didn't have it out for display. A clerk opened up a box for us, and the first one actually had a bubble on the glass. Opened up a second one, and it looked nice and we tried to imagine if it would look right in the dining room. We purchased it, installed it, and the first thing my wife says... it doesn't look right in the dining room. Ahh well, it's still an improvement over what was there.Pros:- With two 100 watt bulbs, this thing does throw a fair amount of light.- Installation was pretty simple. We had to do some adapting (using screws from the existing fixture) to make things work with our set up.- It looks nice (though, agreed, not a dining room light)Cons:- Not sure how many might have the glass bubble or if that really was an isolated occurrence. If buying from the store, open the box before going home.- From the box and the picture, you might not think you will be able to see the base behind the glass. But at the height of our ceiling (a normal height) you can clearly see it.- Changing light bulbs will be a bit of a hassle as you have to take off two screws holding up those decorative clips and then the main one holding up the glass. Not a big deal, but something that will likely have you saying, "stupid light" every time you change the bulb.

Not bad

I ordered and installed two units.The instructions for installation could be a little clearer though other than that, the fixtures are great. Nice and sturdy once all mounting hardware is correctly screwed in. Great value at price as well.

Well made and looks great

Must say, I usually hate this design of lamp, but these offer enough mass and design to actually look pretty good.it's well made and with two 60W clear bulbs, puts out GREAT light for an average size room.
